Disillusioned About Your Home Based Business?

Do you sometimes feel like packing it in? Like you’ve made the wrong decision in starting a home based business? Feeling disillusioned? If the answer is yes, read on to find out where you are in your dissatisfaction cycle and how you can get out of it.

When many of us begin a new home based business or project, the ORIENTAION PHASE seems so exciting, doesn’t it? Even though we don’t know a whole bunch about what we’re exactly supposed to do and the amount of detail that we actually do is low, our energy is high. It’s kind of like starting to renovate…we are all excited at the beginning, we haven’t actually got into the nitty gritty and results are, of course, zero. To summarize the Orientation Phase, we could say: Energy = HIGH, Details = LOW, Results = NONE.

After one to five weeks, we might start to experience the DIS-SATISFACTION PHASE. There are lots of details to contend with. The more we come to know, the more we realize what we don’t know. It’s the old scenario of ripping up the carpet and finding the sub-floor needs replacing and while we are at it, we should replace some drywall. Didn’t this renovation start out to be cosmetic? Our energy starts to wane. And still…the results are next to negligible or zero. To summarize the Dis-satisfaction Phase, we could say:
Energy = LOW, Details = HIGH, Results = NONE.

How I Achieved 7 Top Ten Google Rankings Without Breaking a Sweat

Back in November 2004 I discovered a way to get a top 10 ranking in Google. I tested the technique for 3 months before I shared my findings with the world.

Some people worked my technique and are still holding on to their top Google rankings. Others criticized it, and decided not to give it a go.

Since November 2004 my targeted keywords have gotten more competitive. Webmasters have gotten swifter and saavier with their techniques. New tactics for gaining top 10 listings have emerged, and are enjoying their place in the spotlight.

And here I am still sitting blissfully with the same top 10 Google rankings that I had nine months ago. In fact, I've added several more in July 2005, just to make sure my rankings weren't maintaining because of some seniority algorithm. (Hey, you never know with Google!)

Short Term vs Long Term Marketing Efforts

In order to create consistent sales cycles and a positive growth trend businesses usually engage in both short and long term marketing efforts.

Short-term marketing efforts tend to cause sudden sales spikes which rarely last. These sharp sales increases are usually the result of a targeted marketing campaign or time limited offer. While short-term marketing produces sales, long-term marketing efforts must be mixed in to sustain sales.

Short Term Online Marketing

Mentions
Positive product mentions in forums, newsgroups or within trade organizations can result in a traffic or sales surge. Product endorsements and newsgroup conversations are difficult for marketers to control and time, so while product mentions in forums are short-term marketing, they lack the organized exposure necessary to maintain sales momentum.

A Millionaire's Secret

Washington DC was nasty as could be. As I sat on the bench waiting for my bus to arrive I couldn't wait to get back to the backwoods of Louisiana. I had almost sat in a pool of blood that was on the far end of the bench and I was ready to go. I truly hope people coming to visit our country don't make DC one of their stops.

Anyway, before my bus arrived I was approached by a nicely dressed elderly gentleman in need of directions. I told him I had no idea what he was looking for as I too was just passing through. To this day I'm not sure why, but we started talking as if we had known each other for years.

We talked about life, people and eventually the conversation turned to business. It was here that the gentlemen saw something in me, I suppose, that made him feel like sharing what he said was the greatest secret ever told. He said everyone had heard it but almost no one paid any attention to it, even though it was the one thing that could bestow a fortune upon any man or woman who used it.

Do Marketers Really Need RSS?

The recent Forrester Research study, which claims that only 2% of online households in North America use RSS, took the internet marketing world by storm. Does this data really mean that marketers can still afford to ignore this channel?

Soon after the Forrrester study became public, I received a press enquiery asking whether marketers should be interested in RSS now that so few online adults use it.

Is this the correct question to ask? Let’s take a look at the bigger picture …

1. THE FORRESTER STUDY VALIDITY

The Forrester study is just one of those available and cannot be considered as the only relevant study, although it was conducted on a sample of 68,000 households.
